Work in Progress

I finally had the time to try one of the techniques we did at the Artjourney Retreat a couple of weeks ago. I did a piece a la Traci Bautista. I'm not sure about it though. I don't know whether to add an element or two or leave well enough alone. So I've decided to be brave and ask for some constructive criticism. What do you think? I have wondered if I should add a black internal border to the beach houses. I also thought about some footprints down to the edge. Never having had any art training, I am always so uncertain about when to stop.

My first reaction was how much I enjoyed the color selections. There's a balance of cool and warm colors. I also like the asymmetrical composition that shows part of the first house structure and the palm tree outside of the picture plane. Because the texture of the paint and patterns created by them is eye catching, I'd be careful about adding too much to the piece which might tend to crowd it.
(Hope this helps!)
Take care, Sharon

What about a small bird or two in the sky? Or perched on top of the yellow house? Footprints would look nice, too. I love the bright colors you used. Very inspiring.

What about a warm sun? And the black outline would look GREAT!! This is a fabulous piece!! acrylic and paper?

Love the colours in this it is so tropical.
Perhaps a bit more texture in the back and foregrounds would help blend it together
It is a great piece already however.

BTW what is the Arty Oz group - can it be joined or is it a closed group? I'd like to do some swapping within Aus some times as OS stuff is so expensive to post these days. I've come to your blog via Mixed Media Friends group.

I really like all the texture going on in the piece. The ground and sky or blank space seems to be a bit to blank. I can't wait to see your finished piece.

I agree, it's hard to stop. The good news is that this piece needs more more more.

Add something sparkly like glitter or sequins or beads. In the sand or sky. clear beads if you don't want to add color.

Yes, definitely outline the beach houses. My first rule of quilting is "Contrast FIRST, color second."

Be brave. I would definitely keep going. More is more.
